KBM Spices and Things - “Collective wisdom: Our cultural traditions in a jar” is a woman/non-binary-led BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color)worker-owned cooperative LLC food production business that uses plant-based cultural traditional medicine to make Bronx-based value-added products (food, medicinal, health, and wellness products) that targets the ailments of our community.
We returned to the food of our ancestors. Derived from the cultural traditions of our childhood. We incorporate the Latin and Caribbean cultures of Trinidad, Guatemala, and Barbados to create the recipe for Boogie Down Tambrin. We work in a community garden in the urban agriculture landscape that nurtures us and the land. Like The Bronx, this recipe is derived from many places, multi-ethnic and intergenerational.
RENEE KEITT (name)
Urban Farmer/Grower, Seed Saver, Certified Master Composter. As gentrification arrived and stores closed, she reflected on the adage, “Give a person a fish, and you feed them for a day. Teach them to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime.” The seed was planted. She returned to her roots.
FAY BONAS (she/her)
A resident of the South Bronx Fay was born in Trinidad and Tobago. As a person with disabilities, plants' healing power is used to improve her health. As a neighbor and active community member of Kelly Street in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx her passion for a healthier body gave birth to her using collective ancestral knowledge to impact the community by encouraging others to be change agents in their own health and well-being.
ANA MORAN (she/they)
